Hiring a Wedding Planner

Planning your wedding involves numerous details and activities. After settling the first few important questions of when to get married, where to get married, and of course, whom to marry, you may want to ask yourself if you have the need to hire a wedding planner.

What is a wedding planner? A wedding planner is a professional who makes it his or her business to help you plan out your dream wedding. Typically working in a team, the group, should you decide to hire one, will assist you with all the nitty-gritty stuff that comes with planning your wedding. The wedding planner will take his or her cue from the couple as to what kind of a wedding they would like and will execute steps to ensure that the wedding is everything that the couple imagined within a specified budget.

Thinking about the bride and/or groom, what personality or lifestyle lends itself well to hiring a wedding planner? Individuals who are too busy or who have too much to do at work or running their business that they do not have the time to attend to every little detail themselves. Couples who may want to have their wedding in a place or country other than where they usually stay or reside and will only be flying in for the ceremony a few days before. People who have extra money to spend on wedding planning services. People who can adopt a generally “hands off” attitude and will allow the wedding planners to do their job without meddling too much after discussing the general theme or feel that they desire for their wedding.

If you are closely watching your budget for the wedding, then you may not have the luxury of being able to hire a wedding planner. Such services may cost a significant amount of money and you may be better off handling things on your own. Also, if you are the “hands-on” (which is a much better term than obsessive-compulsive) kind where you want to be involved every step of the way and wish to be consulted about every little thing, then you might as well do the job of putting the wedding together on your own. This will save you and your wedding planner a lot of stress and you will save money too!

Some people or couples achieve a happy compromise by just hiring a wedding planner for the day of the wedding itself. In this way, the couple has full control of the wedding planning process but at the same time, can relax and focus on the ceremony and festivities on the day itself. Planning a wedding well does not mean that all goes as expected on the day of the wedding. Thus, you may need to have someone on hand (your wedding planner for the day) during the actual wedding proceedings to take care of whatever glitches may arise. The newly-married couple can then enjoy their special day, smile, and leave the rest to the wedding planner.

So is hiring a wedding planner ideal for you? What do you think?
